Whole lotta Shaking going on!

Today's card was really fun.  I wanted to play along with Danielle Flanders Make it Monday Challenge from Papertrey Ink.  Here is her fun challenge:

"Your project must use at least one Papertrey product and confetti made from PTI dies included on your project."

My confetti was created using the sweet complimentary dies for the Hippity Hoppity Stamp set.  I also added a few sequins and then encased the whole thing in a shaker box.

My A2 card base is SU Pink Pirouette.  I cut a 2.75" circle from the front.  Then I trimmed a piece of white paper to 4 1/8 x 4 1/4 and cut a circle about 3.5" and embossed it with a woodgrain SU embossing folder.

I attached a piece of clear acetate over the front of the hole on the card base and I attached another piece of clear acetate to the back of the white card stock covering that hole.

Then I carefully applied double stick foam tape to the back of the white card stock/acetate piece being careful not to let the foam tape show through the window.  You need only use enough foam tape to be sure your confetti doesn't get out.  : ) but I pretty much covered the whole back of the white card stock/acetate piece with foam tape.

Then I laid the confetti on top of the card front keeping it on the acetate only.  Next I sandwiched the confetti in by attaching the white card stock/acetate piece to the front. Easy Peasy!!

Inside my card I attached a 4 x 3.5" piece of white card stock.  I stamped the Bunny  and sentiment from the Hippity Hoppity stamp set.  Then just for fun I applied a few more sequins on the inside of the card so that when the card was standing upright you would still be able to see some sparkle through the window. : )

As soon as I saw the Papertrey Ink challenge I immediately new I wanted to create a shaker card!. When I blurfed on over to see what the Mojo Monday challenge sketch for the week was I did the happy dance!! 

Is this a perfect sketch for my shaker card or what?! I LOVE the challenges at MojoMonday!! If you don't already participate in those challenges I recommend you start.  They are truly great at motivating your mojo!!

Fashion Forward

I shamelessly lifted this card from Sandi MacIver.  I saw it on Pinterest and knew I had to make it for my niece, Jenny.  Several years ago when Jenny was hired at a very posh - upscale beauty salon and spa she was told she would need to be "fashion forward" and dress as though she were... shall we say a bit richer than the average stylist.

She pulls off "fashion forward" now with ease as if it were a uniform. : )  When I wrote out this card for her I told her if cards could be "fashion forward" this would be "it"!! LOL It is sure to make her smile.

I'm clearly not fashion forward nor am I up on "the" latest product because I know this pretty stamp set has been out a while but I've just been having a blast playing with Dahlias! : )

I stamped two images on the black card stock with Versamark Ink and  embossed them with clear embossing powder.  Then I  stamped two more Dahlias plus my sentiment and embossed those with an opaque white embossing powder.  Easy Peasy.  For the inside of the card I added a white piece of cs and stamped one part of a flower on the lower right corner - which you can see peeking out from the inside : ) Easy Peasy!!  I have spend quite a bit of time recently watching U Tube tutorials on coloring with pencils. Tonight I thought I would put some of my new found knowledge to use.  I carefully colored the image and used Gamsol and a "blending stump" to shade. I was pretty happy with the outcome but I still have questions! so as "they" say "back to the drawing board" heehee

My card design  was inspired by this weeks Mojo Monday sketch which I modified it a bit because I didn't want to cover up my shading job on the birthday girl's STONEWASHED jeans LOL! THEN I trimmed it badly and cut her off at the knees (major no no) but I was so pleased with the shading I didn't want to re-do it. ROTFL

I guess there is very little chance I'll be recruited to create cards for a big successful papercrafting magazine but I like it and  I hope you will too.

Origami paper bow

Here is a simple pretty little card I created highlighted by a Origami paper bow. My card  was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest.  I set out to find a tutorial to teach me how to make the bows and found many but oh! how I struggled to get it right.  I ended up needing three different tutorials on U tube to get me through it. I finally got it and now feel they are really easy to make! heehee isn't it funny how that works sometimes? : ) 


This tutorial and this tutorial were ones that I used along with a Japanese tutorial.  The Japanese tutorial link is not working so I will not share it here but hopefully this will be enough if you choose to make some of these darling little paper bows.

My bow is created from a lightweight paper - not origami paper. 

I added some embossing on the top part of the card and a simple sentiment for a simply sweet card.  Once I got started making these bows I found it hard to stop LOL  I ended up making a dozen or more bows in different colors.  I created card fronts similar to this one only I left the sentiment off.  I set them aside in my card box for future use where, depending on what the occasion,  I can pull one out - add the sentiment I need and in just minutes I will have a card ready to go. : )

Less is More

I decided to try the challenge at  "Less is More" challenge blog.  I have been admiring the work of the owners and followers for some time now. : )

The challenge this week is to use Green and Yellow on your "clean and simple" card. 

There are a few "firsts" on my card.  My background was created using my new die plate from Papertrey Ink. Love it!! This is the first time I've used it.  This is also the first time I've used this Dahlia image from Stampin Up's "Regarding Dahlias".  this is the first time I've used sequins and this is the first time I've used Gamsol with colored pencils to color an image! : ) It's amazing this card turned out at all LOL.

I stamped my Dahlia with Versamark then embossed it with a white embossing powder.  The detail in the image combined with the embossing made this a poor choice for this technique.

the embossed lines on some of the petals kept me from shading as I wanted and therefore makes the flower look like it has unnatural light and dark on the petals.  I will try it again. : )

I LOVE camping!

 I grew up camping! I came from a large family and so many of my wonderful childhood memories are from the camping trips we took : )   Most of our camping was done in a large tent but after some of the children "left the nest" eventually my folks purchased a travel trailer.

I designed this "groovy" scrapbook page as a kit to be purchased through my friend Barb's store.  The kits I am making for her are really catching on!! Her customers buy the kit with everything needed to create this page cut to size and ready to assemble : )

I cut the camper about 5 different times using different colored pieces of card stock then just cut myself some layers : )  The rest of the components are either pieces of  coordinating papers or American Crafts ribbons from her store. I added "Antiquing" to most of the page elements using some rust colored ink applied with a sponge.

I added some old postage stamps from my stash.  The stamps are authentic, cancelled, postage stamps from around the 1960s and made for a sweet feature on the page.

I wont list the papers in the supply list for this page because it was literally created from discontinued papers.  As you can see you could duplicate the page easily by opening your own scrap bid and selecting papers. : )

Recently I posted the question for my Liebster Award:  "What is the most memorable event in your life?"  Here is my answer... 

Being given the honor of being there when my granddaughter entered the world. That happened 17 years ago today and it was one of THE most memorable events in my life.  It was made even more remarkable by the fact that I reached out and she fell into my hands.  Mine were the very first human hands to hold her.

Happy Birthday, Melanie Joy.  I love you and I continue to hold you - in my heart - every day of my life!!

 I selected this image because Melanie is an artist and it reminded me of her.  It is 6 x 6" card.  I printed the digital image on ecru watercolor paper and colored it with watercolor pencils.  Not much else to it but I hope she likes it. : ) Oh, I did add "Stickles Crystal Ice" glitter glue to the centers of each flower and highlighted the butterflies a bit as well. The light reflects off the sparkles but hopefully you can get the idea.

Little Memories BIG Memories

Here is another scrapbook page kit I've added to my friend's store this week.  Kind of feels like summertime and I could use some summer time right now!

It is just a simple little page.  I sewed around the center of a solid 12 x 12 card stock. I added some of the woodgrain patterned paper that is so popular right now. Once I did that I felt it just needed some blue jeans! I drew this little pocket and then stitched it, added the little flourish and some ink and by gum! I think it looks exactly like the pocket from a pair of jeans : )

My flowers were cut using the Cricut machine.  The border punch at the bottom  left and top right of the page were cut with a Martha Stewart punch and both of the sentiments are from Close to My Heart. I added some sweet little buttons from my mega stash of buttons!

I didn't stamp my usual "Place Photo Here" stamp on the four photo place holders because I included just a large sheet of the tan card stock in the kit instead.  In the instructions that  I include with each kit I let the customer know the dimensions of the little photo squares I used but encouraged them to customize the photo frame to meet their needs.  : )

Movie Night

Before I share my post I would like to welcome my two newest followers.  I love blogging! and here is why... meet Pauline owner of Crafting with Cotnob from Hampshire in the United Kingdom and Sue owner of Sue's Rubber Stamping Adventures from upstate New York - a town only about 15 miles from where I was born and raised! This is one of the scrapbook pages I created for my friend's store.  : ) Did I over do the movie tickets? LOL

I started with  black card stock that has a yellow core by Core'dinations.  Honestly, I don't care much for Core'dinations papers because as a stamper I don't appreciate the texture on their card stock. However, as a scrapbook page it is truly wonderful! a nice thick good quality paper.  My picture doesn't show it but I sanded the edges of the paper so that the yellow would show through and give the illusion of a glow.  I then sprayed the background paper only with a silver Glitter Spray from Walmart.

The clapboard in the upper left corner is clip art that I printed and cut out.  I popped it up with foam tape for added dimension. I jazzed it up a bit with some red rhinestones.

I am having a good time creating scrapbook page kits.   I'm thinking of card kits next!!

Incredible! amount of snow!!

And it is STILL falling tonight.  I can sure understand how the dog in this image feels!! LOL We must have a new 10 inches by now and it is predicted it will continue to fall through the night and all day tomorrow.

My card was inspired by this weeks Mojo Monday's sketch : ) for my great niece Madison who is in the hospital! : ( I sure hope she will be home soon so that she can get out to play in all this white stuff!!

Stationery Style!

Butterflies punched with a Martha Stewart punch

 Here is a sampling some sweet cards I made for a gift. 

I lifted the idea for the cards from something I saw on Pinterest.  The card is stark white except for the little monochromatic butterflies that are perfectly color coordinated because they are punched from "paint chips"

I stitched around each card and embellished my butterflies with mini pearls.

I love putting my handcrafted cards in gift packages.  I created this package from a 6 x 6" plastic scrapbook page protector. I cut the "flap" from white card stock 9" x 6".  Then I scored 2 7/8" from one long end.  This became the flap.  I layered  some soft yellow card stock on top and then another piece of plain white - which had been embossed with a Cuttlebug folder over the top of that.  Before securing the layers to the flap I wrapped a little bit of the same twine around it that I had used on my cards.  And finally added a little butterfly punched from the same paint chip I used for the top card in my gift pouch.

I slid the "flap" (the scored 9 x 6" paper) and layered my cards inside the page protector then added a Velcro tab to the underside of the flap and the plastic page protector for the perfect closure : )

This gift was created last year but I have not had a chance to post my pictures.  I thought of it today because it is STARK white outside right now. The 10 PLUS inches of predicted snow is now falling.  It truly is beautiful but we are all getting weary of this long winter and hoping for the pastel of spring to get here soon!!

When I was creating this two page kit layout for my friend's scrapbook store I continually thought of my new friend, "Kitty" from KT Designs.  This sweet papercrafter LOVES kittys : )

Kitty has also nominated me for a "Liebster Blog Award"

I had no idea what this was so I went searching and found some useful information on THIS BLOG.  No matter what the reason I will do my best to play along!

Here are my answers to Kitty's questions: 

1. What prompted you to create a blog?

I wanted to have a place to chat and share with fellow paper crafters from all over the world! It works just that way and I love it!

2. What do you do with all the cards you make?

I send all the cards I make to family and friends. I especially like making “gift series” cards which have a similar color scheme or theme and then package them up in creative ways and give them as gifts.

3. What blog reader do you use?  (I'm asking this because I've had trouble with my Blogger Dashboard list loading lately.)

I am better at card making than at computer lingo LOL what is a blog reader?

4. Do you prefer traditional stamping with ink, or digital stamps, and why?

Wow that one is a toss up!  I have hundreds of traditional stamps and I truly love them.  I enjoy “fussy work” so I may stamp an image on both solid cs and patterned paper then do paper piecing.  For that reason I  like traditional stamping the best.  However, I LOVE digital stamps because I can get NEW, inexpensive and unique images for my projects almost immediately.  This surely seems to be the wave of the future as more and more digi images are becoming available and “I’m in!”.  : )

5. Do you work outside the home and, if so, what is/was your line of work?

I am the designer and co-owner of neckStyles™, a home based business.  We have been selling scarves on-line and at high end craft shows since 2010

6. What is your favorite craft item to purchase?

I am wild about embossing folders and dies – can’t seem to get enough of them!

7. Do you enjoy walking or any other physical activity?

I LOVE walking – we live in a beautiful rural area in north western Wisconsin and if all this snow would ever melt I will be found out walking in the woods again : )

8. Do you have your own craft room?

I do have a well outfitted craft room : )

9. Do you collect anything?

Not anymore.  I used to enjoy collecting but as I’ve grown older “downsizing” has been my middle name!

10.  What is your favourite fruit or vegetable?

Brussel Sprouts are my all time favorite veggie and it is a toss up between strawberries and raspberries on the fav fruit! : ) yummm!

11. Do your family members/friends follow your blog?

To my knowledge only one of my family members follows my blog but I wouldn’t be surprised if a few pop in now and then to see what cards I will be sending them during the year - heehee

2. I need help with coloring! I am considering Copic Markers but am afraid of the cost.  Anyone have any great coloring tutorial - other than Copics-  links they could share??

3. How do you get people to be able to pin your cards to Pinterest? It is like a mystery!  I once got mine working with the help of my genius husband working in html code but then the option to pin my cards just "disappeared" : (  

4.  Ok, I'm so out of time today for this post : ) I will stop boring you and give you some quickie "fun" questions... What is the #1 thing on your "bucket list"

5.  What is the last thing that came out of your  fridg today?

6.  What is the most memorable event in your life?

I wanted to use this circle and scallop frame to really show off the sweetness of this ROUND and chubby Gruffie but in doing so I would be cutting off the lilac sprig on the lower right.  So I carefully masked the flower and omitted it from my main image but then reversing my mask I stamped only the lilac sprig onto white card stock so that I could use it on the inside of my card.

I once read a quote - I do not know who the author was - but it read "God gave us memories so that we could have roses in December".  Well, the same could definitely be said of Lilacs, one of my favorite flowers.  I can almost smell the beautiful fragrance even though it is February and we are still buried under several feet of snow!

I am blessed to have such a friend.

My card design was inspired by my favorite challenge Blog, Mojo Monday.

I hand cut my heart shape so that I could most closely duplicate the style of the hearts on my background paper from Crate Paper. This paper in their series, Love Notes, and is called "Sparked". 

I cut two velum tags from some polka dot patterned velum paper and sewed them together sandwiching several Prima flowers inside.

I added a couple of buttons and some ribbon from my stash an finally added the scripture verse layered over a piece of ribbon.

I especially enjoyed creating this card because I knew I could layer it up as thick as I liked because I knew I would be hand delivering it rather than putting it in the mail : )

Special Delivery

As the 7th Anniversary party at Papertrey Ink comes to a close here is the final challenge they issued"

"The Special Delivery Challenge is all about making the presentation as much fun as the contents.  Create a card and a coordinating envelope using the last ounce of creative energy you've got!  Think of the envelope as an extension of your card and feel free to layer it up, embellish it or whatever else your heart desires!"

 This envelope took me longer to make than 20 cards! LOL I really thought about skipping it altogether and making 20 cards instead heehee but I persevered and here it is... whatever it's worth! : p

I hand cut the envelope a couple of times from different papers looking for the best effect and then decided on Kraft paper.  I felt it really needed some definition so I inked it a little and now it looks like the hands are dirty! yipes : )

I did not create the envelope template.  A girlfriend shared the template on one of my very first cardmaking gatherings about 16 years ago. : )  This may be first time I have ever used it! I have become spoiled by the Cricut and die cutting capabilities that are so precise and  popular now but this was fun for a change.

I hope you had a SWEET Valentines Day.  Mine was overflowing with love! My wonderful husband gave me the most beautiful roses and took me out to dinner then and we shared some yummy chocolate that was hand dipped by one of my dear friends! : ) Who could ask for more!?!

Classroom Valentines

 I remember the days when we would exchange Valentines in school.  It was so thrilling to select "just the right" card for the person you were giving them to - taking extra care! not to give a lovey dovey one to a boy!! There was one exception I recall.  I "loved" a boy named John M.  I wrote out his card professing my great love but NATURALLY kept my identity a secret. I was really shocked when he came up to me and told me he knew the profession of love came from me! WOW I said "how did you know"? he said you are the only person I know who spells my name wrong → → Jonh ← ← ugh! the agony! especially because he said he didn't like me AT ALL!  heehee trauma of being a grade schooler!!

These are a bit different than the Valentines I used to give but these are the ones my darling granddaughter, Katelyn, will be giving to her second grade classmates tomorrow.  : ) with the amazing inspiration from Becky Roberts I created just over 30 of these sweet treats!

I want to show the size comparison of these adorable little cups that would be perfect when filled with candy for Valentines Day like I did or a Baby Shower favor or welcome to the neighborhood or workplace gift or just about anything where you want to surprise and bless someone!!

Not to leave my 3 year old grandson out... he is just a toddler but I created some treats for his daycare class as well.  : )

I created this card for a dear friend who may have actually looked a lot like this girl back "in the day".  I hope she will love it as much as I love her!

I purchased this image from Posh Totty Designz on Etsy.  I don't know about you but I LOVE Etsy! not just because I sell my scarves there but because the marketplace is so full of wonderful and unique handcrafted items from all over the world!  Just today we sold a scarf to someone in the Netherlands!! It is really a thrill to think of someone wearing a scarf I made in my sewing room across the ocean : )

Ok, I digress : ) I have only purchased this one image, so far, from Posh Totty Designz but I can tell you this image is crisp and clear! I printed several images trying to decide what I would add to my card and no matter how big I printed it - it was crisp and clear!!

I used two different embossing folders on by background, Quarterfoil from the Paper Studio and Anna Griffin's Foulard.  The oval was cut from Spellbinders as were the heart shapes.  The ribbon was from Wal-Mart and the ribbon rose was from a bag in my "stash" in an unmarked package that was gifted to me.

Be Mine

This is a 12 x 12" Scrapbook page I created as a prototype for some kits that my friend will sell in her store. 

She is selling the kits for only $4.50.  Each kit comes with all the elements shown here PLUS the remainder of the 15 piece chipboard sticker pack which by itself retails for $2.99!!

These kits are really getting fun to make!! The hardest part for me right now is creating a page WITHOUT pictures! heehee

Speaking of winners!!  Can you imagine winning $300.00 in free product form your favorite stamp company? Well that is what one lucky winner will get on February 15th!! in honor of Papertrey Ink's 7th anniversary!! I don't know if I will qualify for this prize because I already won $70.00 from them this week!! woo woo!! but I created this card for that challenge before I knew I was a winner so I decided to post again even if it is just for the fun of it!

 We had several sketches we could choose to use for our card and several "color recipes" .  I selected these.

This was a really fun card to make. It has a lot of stitching on it - as quite a few of my cards have had recently! : ) I think I miss sewing scarves LOL

I selected papers from Echo Park Paper Co.  I cut different width strips and actually sewed them to my card front.  I added a piece of satin ribbon from my stash and zig zagged it to the card as well. 

Using Thin Cuts Button die I cut two of each of the buttons from solid card stock.  I ran Bakers Twine through the holes and secured a backing to each button "hiding" the frayed edges of the twine and giving the button a little more dimension.

I finished it all off with a wonderful sentiment from Papertrey Ink.  It was a selection from Dawn McVey's Boutique Borders: Friends stamp set.

This is a very flat card! so much so that I was thinking of entering it into a "Less is More" challenge.  But after reviewing the rules for that challenge I see that card this one has too many layers!!
