A Burst of Sunshine!

Happy Friday friends : )

I wanted to be sure to get a post up today because it is Friday and I know you are looking for my Penny Black "Fun Friday" post.  As it turns out I am not scheduled at Penny Black this week but you can find me here next Friday on September 2nd when both PB and I will be featuring my three "Beautiful in Blue" cards AND right here you will have another chance to win $25.00 in your choice of Penny Black products! If you missed my announcement and wanna know what I'm referring to please check out THIS POST.

I hope the weather is a bit nicer in your part of Blogland than it is in mine today.  It is 45* and cloudy with the threat of thunder storms and a high of only 65*.  It feels like fall! but I'm not finished with summer! : )

So sorry about the quality of my photograph I simply could not get the lighting right - must be the gloom outside!  This is a Thank you card I made for my sister, Susan of A Splash of Color blog, for my June birthday gift.  I made and sent it back in June but have not had the chance to post it until today and I NEED some sunshine in my life right now : ) Maybe it'll inspire these clouds to dissipate : )

The gift she sent was a package of Ken Oliver Crafts COLOR BURST powders.  If you have not seen this beautiful product check out Ken Oliver's blog HERE where he shares some amazing techniques and inspiration!

I started with water color paper and positioned my sunshine stencil over the top.  Next I spritzed my paper/stencil with water and then "poofed" some of the color burst powder over the top.  Yes! poofed! It is the coolest thing! and fun and unpredictable because, like "splatters", you can't really know exactly where that paint will land.  The powder is super fine!! so beware and be sure to do your poofing in a large box or else you'll find microfine little dots of powder on everything!  : ) Trust me.... I know!

I have been so busy this summer it is crazy and therefore summer is going by crazy fast! : ) I love it all!! since moving to the Black Hills we have been blessed to have so many friends and family visiting it has been  like a revolving door!!  This past week we had dear friends from Minnesota visit.

Visitors have kept me away from papercrafting.  Then this week I have been covered up (almost literally) with beautiful fabric as I sew scarves for our neckStyles™ business.  Christmas shopping is always a busy and lucrative time for us in our business so I have been preparing for a new release and sale in September. Sewing has kept me away from papercrafting! My husband and I have purchased Recumbent Tricycles this year so Biking has kept me away from papercrafting!!

Here are some pictures of my new bike and our friend's visit last week.  I'm sorry it is so long I could't figure out how to make a grid like Darnell does : ) but it's just pictures not long drawn out stories explaining each picture like your Mother-in-law does!  giggles

In all the years we've been visiting  Prairie Dog town's in SD we have never ever seen Prairie Dogs allow you to get so close! this little sweetie had this Prairie Dog literally eating out of her hand!

On this fun note I will close for today.  I need to tuck away my sewing supplies and vacuum to inspect for pins that might have gotten away from me and to get rid of all the colorful fibers floating around : ) Once that is complete I get to decide what I'm going to work on because tomorrow I'm finally going to get back to papercrafting when I get to go to a FUN full day of playing with paper with three crafty friends!!

Thank you so much for stopping by.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

BIG (((Hugs)))
Patti

Patti the color bursts created such a fantastic sun! Gorgeous. I love all the photos you shared. When we traveled through SD Alberta a few years ago we saw Prairie Dogs but not this large. We have a Havanese and he often sits up like this when he wants attention, we call it he Prairie Dog pose! Thanks for sharing!

WE loved spotting those Prairie Dogs, Patti ... can't wait to come back to SD! LOve the look of that gorgeous sunrise, Patti - Color Burst is totally new to me, as are the Brushos I see others use. One day I'll get with the program - until then, keep them coming! xx

Wow, those color burst things look amazing! I loved your explanation of them and the gorgeous card you created. Sounds like you have thoroughly enjoyed your summer even though fun activities have prevented you from papercrafting as much as you would like. The pictures you shared were awesome. That bike looks so cool! How much fun is that to ride around town on?? Looks like a blast! How fun with the prairie dogs. Hope it's safe to get that close! Thanks so much for sharing. Have fun getting crafty with your friends. Hugs!

Patti, what a fun post today! Your card is so pretty and I love the vivid orange and yellows. Your sun looks bright and colorful on a gloomy day. Sounds just a little chilly for summer! What fun pics of your bike and prairie dog adventures. Looks like you have fun away from papercrafting! Hugs

Sounds like a wonderfully rich, full summer going on in SD! One of these days, I'd like to make it back to RC to see the street where I was born.... Love your card! Those color bursts are amazing, and you've created a fantastic sunburst! Such vivid colors, and interesting splattery pattern. Best of luck with your neckStyles, too. I'll be checking them out for sure! Take care, Bev

I love your card, your new bike (so cool!) and the fun pictures you shared, which made me reminisce about spending time with you a couple of months ago.... how can that be a couple of months ago already? Wow, time sure does fly! Glad you're having fun!

Beautiful sunburn card ! I enjoyed seeing all your beautiful pictures and I love the bike! You live in God’s country for sure! Storms sound kinda fun to me as we don’t get many at all here in S. CA!

Lovely sun burst! Love the spackled look... I went with Nuance pigment powders instead of KO... not sure if there's a big difference... I am still working on perfecting this technique. :)

WOW! I'm out of breath just reading this post; I'd need extra vitamin supplements to keep up with you! You’re a bundle of energy and enthusiasm, for your visitors, your scarf business (ultra super cool!) and, especially, your crafting! Your burst of sunshine card: stunning! No colour bursts in my stash; I need to see those poofs in action, first. Your recumbent bike: totally cool! Perfect vehicles for your SD hills! And the photos: oh my! Fabulous in every way; and seriously, how cute are those prairie dogs! I may have to plan a visit your direction one of these days…have to find my husband a road race to make the decision easier *grin*
