Altenew Class #2

Kind of a late post for me today but it was a busy weekend and an even busier Monday!!

I have only seen two of the six classes in the Beautiful Details series of classes being taught by Marika Rahtu for Altenew Academy but I am really learning a lot and find the class price tag of $8.97 to be very reasonable!

Lesson # 2 is Detailed Leaves.  Here is my homework : )

Marika taught us how to create detailed leaves using Zig markers : )  my new favorite toy!

This is how the leaf would look colored with the exact same Zig markers in the three-step stamped image that comes with Altenew's Beautiful Day set.

As you can see it has beautiful detail as a three-step stamped image but in my card you will note the finer added details.  The two leaf sprigs on my card are my very fist attempts at this technique.  Obviously practice would only improve on it but it's not too shabby for my first attempts if I may say so myself.   : )

I wanted to stick with the same colors in the leaves so I used an OLD technique that some of you might remember trying.  I stamped my flowers on glossy card stock using Versamark Ink.  Then I ran my piece over an open flame.  It made all sorts of pretty "sooty" smoky lines.  I wiped the "soot" off with a soft tissue and the color of the flowers remained.  No ink was added to the back panel - the results were entirely created by the flame burning off the Versamark.  I inked up the 4-step flower image on a piece of vellum - fussy cut it out and attached it and my leaf springs. Ta da!! : )

Thank you all for your extremely kind and encouraging words!! My cup overflows!!

Patti

Gorgeous! You are definitely a star pupil, Patti! I agree that the price for the class is very reasonable, for those who own Copics and those watercolor pens. :) I would dearly love to learn some of Marika's tips as she is a wonderful colorist. You definitely pick up the techniques quickly and beautifully. I remember that soot technique from years past. Your work is just gorgeous. Keep on studying. :) Hugs. Thank you as well for the lovely comment you left on my post. You are very kind. :)

Patti, you are doing an outstanding job on your class from Marika. I have watched her videos and I'm not sure I have enough patience to do all the shading that she does. Her work is so awesome and you are proving to be awesome too. Great job.

I can definitely see the difference in the details of the leaves. It sounds like a great class - I wish I had the time to take it right now! And I admire your flaming, sooty background:) I've never heard of that technique and I'm pretty sure that if I tried it the fire department would somehow be involved! This is a beautiful card. I love how the pink flower looks against your monochrome background.
